I can't wear them, I'm too fat.

Only had time to stop in Roxbury today. At Harrison ave I got these glasses, I now have 3 of those nice Chimay ones

This awesome pin:

I now have 13 of the 39 volumes of this WWII set that Time-Life put out in the early 80s, thanks to these six: The Battle of the Atlantic, Blitzkrieg, Prelude to War, Russia Besieged, The Rising Sun and The Battle of Britain:

I then headed over to the outlet, where I found this particularly intersting book, hand-bound of various magazine and newspaper clippings from the mid 19th century, lots of weird facts and observations:

I particularly enjoy the comics, which are unfunny, but funny in the sense that the humor is so dry:

More books; there's another WWII set thats growing, i now have 3 in this series. A Popular Science magazine from 1959, I like looking at the vintage car and cigarette ads from this era:

and this Monkees record:

How can I change the prices when I don't even make them?

Finally got into town for the first time in weeks. Hit up Davis square. Got these records; the JFK one has a bunch of speeches and comments on it, very nice. The other one has the LSO doing classical covers of Beatles and Rolling Stones songs, plus others:

This book on Holocaust survivor stories:

and this long out of print Miltown cd:

It's x-mas time at Goodwill's everywhere, the one armed nut crackers, broken x-mas tree ornaments and cheesy department store decorations are out in full force.

Went over to Central Sq. but found nothing of interest. I did however have an interesting conversation with an old man on his collection of Nazi propaganda pre-WWII. We were sorting through the books in the carts and found a lot of old National Geographic's (20s-40s) that were rebound into hardcover. I should note that the books were in carts due to the fact that x-mas items were put up on the bookshelves, totally makes sense.

Stopped over in Quincy, and found nothing either, way too late in the day to find anything new.

May I ask you a suggestion?

After a few days away from the stores I find that I haven't missed much. A vintage Columbia child's bike was in the corner, and a bunch of records in another, but nothing I liked. I settled on these books:

and this Heineken glass:

After a two-week hiatus I will make a brief trip into town tomorrow. Cheers.

I told the lady 10 times to get out of the bins

People are not taking well to the new Goodwill policy of letting the workers put things on the shelves before you can claim it. It used to be a free-for-all, but it looks like those days are over, at least in Quincy. Doesn't really bother me, if anything this will make some of these people not come anymore which means more for me.

Another Namco PS1/Ps2 lightgun:

A tea cup with a picture of a 1904 Cadillac on it:

Happy Thanksgiving, be back on Sunday.

Why do you need my license, you know I'm 65

The upcoming month as always is a busy time at work, so if this thing doesn't get updated its because I'm not getting out there as much. With x-mas shopping, extra hours at work, crappy weather, I just don't have as much free time as I would like.

This being a holiday week, I didn't get out to my usual places. Haven't been in Boston in 2 weeks, nor Brockton this past week. Things may be back to normal next Monday, maybe.

Anyways, went to Quincy and got some glasses:

If you don't come here someone is going to steal you

Quick Sunday stop in Quincy; just these books:

I saw some glasses today but decided not to get them. I really have it narrowed down on what I want to collect now, and they just didn't fit the bill.
There was also a home-made hookah there too, but it was sketchy at best so no go on that.
I usually go to Brockton after but I wasn't inspired enough.

I'm not loyal today

The book carts were out in Quincy today, a rarity. Picked up this gem:

Another Saturn game trickles into the mix; Sega Rally Championship:

No money, no honey

Back to the old ways in Quincy today, no cart-nazi's; you finds what you keeps my friend.

Got this satire on famous weapons, wonderfully illustrated by Kurt Halbritter:

A copy of Virtua Cop that isn't scratched to bits, now where is that system lurking:

Gregorian Chants; so relaxing:

Are you working in advertising yet?

It was a Harrison ave day today. In the main store i picked up this book:

This awesome record, I know you're laughing but come on now its got that song " I love trash", instant buy. You'd be surprised how much these records go for, if only I could find the covers in good shape:

A stein and a few glasses, vintage 1974 Looney Tunes in brand-new condition:

Then I went into the outlet store which is slowly becoming my favorite place for good deals. If you buy 5 things or more they lower the price to 20 cents each.

This incredible 2-record set, I'm in stoner heaven right now:

Another good WWII book:

Sega Saturn game haul; Dark Savior, Crusader- No Remorse, Iron Man X-O Manowar In Heavy Metal, and Lunacy:

I don't think anyone's working back there today

Been to Quincy the last two days and have come up empty. It's not one of those droughts its just they seem to be so far behind in putting stuff out because I can see in the back room, carts upon carts of things but no one to bring anything out.

Decided not to go into town today and instead went to the Amvets on the observation of Veteran's day hoping for some luck. Nothing spectacular but didn't come up empty.

Remember those short-lived 80s toys Madball's? If you don't I feel for you, because they were awesome. Got this Madballs Slobulus winter hat:

and Six Feet Under Graveyard Classics CD:

I don't want anything to do with that baby

It seems the Gestapo division of the Goodwill is at it again. Apparently they don't want people going through the bins until the workers have put things on shelves. This makes no sense. If anything, the customers rummaging through the bins helps because A.) It saves the workers tedious time putting stuff that people huddle around them for anyway. B.) Some of the customers themselves put things on the shelves for the workers. I don't see this rule lasting, it will probably be enforced by the workers who just hate their lives and their job.

anyways...

Awesome dvd haul, Grindhouse Experience vol. 1 & 2:

Michael Jackson Thriller:

I cried

Got this nice little portable record player today. This is my fourth, there's just something really neat about them. I plan on taking this into work tonight to listen to Hendrix:

Tuesday, November 6, 2007

I'll beat you up in front of the customers

A quick stop today in Quincy. If you're only gonna come out of a thrift store with one thing make sure its a Rocky III LP soundtrack:

The Quincy store seems to be going through some type of transition, as the whole back end of the store was bare.
I didn't make it out to Harrison Ave today because I didn't feel like driving through this crappy rain, plus I had a delivery so I'll get out there next week.

Monday, November 5, 2007

I thought you were gonna hit me

Went to Davis Sq. for the first time in weeks. Picked up these two books, I especially enjoy the children's adaption of the Iliad and The Odyssey dated 1956 with beautiful illustrations. Would be worth a few bucks if the outer binding was still there:

Also got a promo copy of Botch's American Nervoso:

Then stopped in Quincy and got this Cream dvd:

Sunday, November 4, 2007

I only owe you 5 dollars

My usual Sunday stop to the Quincy goodwill.

This awesome record (which I'm listening to now):

This book:

and this old-school Celtics poster:

There's a mess and I'm cleaning it up

Goodwill Quincy has been slacking off as of late. No one has been putting out anything and I'm reduced to getting these shirts:
