An Introduction...

This blog will be dedicated mostly to my thrifting exploits. I have made it a ritual for the past 2 years to make the rounds at the local thrift stores, garage and estate sales and numerous good deals via Craigslist.
You could say I have a passion for junk. Anything and everything is collectible, and I rarely ever sell anything. I've always had an interest in other peoples unwanted items. One of my favorite memories of my late Father were of us going through the red dumpsters in front of the Salvation Army. Of course this is called stealing but whatever, I didn't know that back then, and we found tons of useful items, some of which can still be found in my mothers living room today.
Trash day for me growing up was like Christmas every week. I remember bringing home this god awful looking brass coat rack. It sat in the corner for years. One time I brought home a 1970s model Sony TV because I wanted one for my room and my mom sure as hell couldn't afford a second one for the house, and my kid income of 50 dollars a year wasn't gonna cut it. So I put the thing on the floor, turned it on....nothing happens. I get frustrated, and grab a drink out of the fridge , when all of a sudden the fucking thing hisses and explodes, leaving a black ring of sulfur on my moms recently finished kitchen floor and broken glass everywhere. Everyone learns from their mistakes. No more bringing in old electronics after its been outside in the pouring rain all week.
So here I am today. Collecting everything and anything. I'm just addicted to kitschy items. That would probably explain the ceramic toucan holding a dish scrubber in our kitchen:

Items of particular interest to me are: glassware. Pint glasses, pilsner glasses, European, German steins, novelty, mugs, pitchers, shot glasses. The glass collection is getting up there. Books. Old, new, mostly non-fiction, mostly war related; WWII in particular. Art, vintage sports, turn-of-the-century Encyclopedias, coffee table books, epic novels, fairy tales, you get the idea. Video Games. Just about anything ever goes into this list. All the major companies, all the classic games, all the accessories. Electronics. Tube radios, record players, vintage cameras, etc., etc. Clothes. I don't collect clothes, but more than half of my wardrobe consists of clothes purchased through thrift. Mostly something of no particular interest, but every once in a while I'll come across something really nice and vintage which is a rarity for someone with my scrawny physique. The last category would be anything that just catches my eye. Anything form German coat of arms ceramic ashtrays:
